ABSTRACT
The study was conducted to identify factors of Okra production in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area. 60 Okra farmers were identified and given a well structure questionnaire. 55 questionnaires were returned by the respondents. The questionnaire were collected and organized for analysis. Percentage was used to analyze the data collected. Results from the study shows that majority of the farmers are male, within the age of 47-56 and above, main occupation is farming; 18.18% are civil servants. Education level is low; 32.73% had no formal education while 29.10% had primary education. Factors affecting Okra production in the area include land acquisition, size of farm land, land preparation method and source of capital. For management practices the study revealed that there is low use of fertilizer (23.64%) and herbicide (25.45%) among farmers, also majority of the farmers use local variety (54.55%). The study established need for improvement in management practices for Okra production in the study area.

ABSTRACT
Experiment was conducted in field under organic conversion, to determine the effect of four rates of indigenous bio-pesticides on root-knot disease, growth and yield of Amaranthus cruentus. The trial was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design. The experiment consisted of 16 treatments replicated three times with the dimension 3 m x 4 m. Seeds were first planted in the nursery bed to raise healthy seedlings for transplanting four weeks after emergence. Pre-plant herbivorous nematode population was determined prior to seedling transplanting. The biopestices were applied at the rate of 0, 100, 125 and 150 ml/16 Litre of water by spraying them between 6.30 and 7.30 am biweekly as foliar and soil applications. Growth parameters and nematode population were taken two Weeks After Biopesticide Applications (WABA) and sustained bi-weekly until 8 WABA. Nematode census was again determined 60-66 Days after Transplanting. Data obtained were subjected to Analysis of Variance using Statistical Analysis System (SAS) version 10.2 and statistically significant treatment means were separated using the new Duncan Multiple Range Test at 5% level of probability. The four tested bio-pesticides suppressed (p ≤ 0.05) nematode population and number of galls with attendant better (p ≤ 0.05) growth performance compared with the control (unsprayed plots). BIO183 and BIO184 at 100 ml were the most efficacious. It is recommended that BIO181 at 100 ml can be further verified on farmers’ fields for possible adoption for root-knot nematode population management in A. cruentus

ABSTRACT
Despite the importance of Loranthaceae parasites of woody plants in traditional African medicine, very few studies have been carried out on their diversity in the Sudano-Sahelian zone of Cameroon. The study aims to examine the diversity of Loranthaceae parasites of woody plants and determine their altitudinal distribution over the Mandara Mountains in the Far North region, Cameroon. It took place in nine (09) borough spread over four Departments of the Mandara Mountains. The experimental setup is made up of 15 Hills (Altitude ≥ 1000m) representing the main treatment. The 15 Hills are chosen at the rate of one Mount every 10 km in the whole of the Mandara Mountains. The Mounts were grouped by three according to the level of Altitude of the plain of each Mount to find five Mounts (Mont 1 (<500m = Mont1 + Mont2 + Mont15); Mont 2 ([500m-600m [= Mont4 + Mont5 + Mont3); Mont 3 ([600m-700m [= Mont6 + Mont7 + Mont13); Mont 4 ([700m-800m [= Mont8 + Mont9 + Mont14); Mont 5 (> 800m = Mont10 + Mont11 + Mont12)). On each Hill, two Flanks (East and West) were chosen and constituting the secondary treatment, and on each Flank, 50mx20m transects (repetitions) were installed by Altitude level (tertiary treatment) starting with the plain, to the top of the Hill with a space of 50m between two transects. On each transect of each difference in level, all the parasitized trees or not, as well as the parasitic plants were inventoried. A total of 120 host species distributed in 34 families and 75 genera are inventoried. Combretaceae and Mimosaceae are the most represented with 13 species each, ie 38.24% for each family. Acacia is the most diverse with 10 species, ie 8.33% of the host species. 18 genera, i.e. 24% of the flora, are reported to be monospecific in this zone. In all of the 120 listed host species, 68 species or 56.66% of the host species are parasitized by 1 or 2 parasitic species and represent the first class (I) which is the class of not very sensitive host species parasitis

ABSTRACT
The work on assessment of plants at the Lake Kivu shoreline, from Bwindi road /Oil Station to AMSAR section, on the west coast of Lake Kivu had an objective to assess plants at the Lake Kivu shoreline, from Bwindi road /Oil Station to AMSAR section: determine species encountered at the Lake Kivu shoreline, the major plant canopy and beds present in a body of water and the benefits of revegetation. The quota method and the survey technique for the reconnaissance of shoreline plants were used. The species were classified on the forest species (Grevillea robusta, Pinus patula, Eucalyptus spp, Acacia mearnsii, Measopsis eminii), the agroforestry species (Vernonia amygdalina, Markhamia lutea Markhamia lutea, Eucalyptus spp, Senna siamea, Eurytrina especinica), the ornamental species (Caesalpinia cesalpinia, Spathodea campanulata, Terminalia mantaly, Casuarina equisetifolia) and other (Phragmites australis, Bambusa vulgaris, Eleocharis cellulose and E. interstincta). The shoreline of Lake Kivu in this section should be revegetating for the protection and food of fish and other animal species. In addition, we propose that the sole use of aboveground biomass as a proxy for valuing coastal protection services should be reconsidered and South Kivu provincial authorities must have created a control and waste collection service on the Lake Kivu shoreline
