ABSTRACT
The prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites in major dumpsites and health risk behaviour of scavengers in Port Harcourt metropolis was investigated. Eight dumpsites were randomly selected for the study and 40 samples of soil and household waste material were collected from the dumpsite into sterile containers respectively. The samples were examined and parasites concentrated using zinc sulphate floatation technique. The results showed that a total of 39 parasite species belonging to 5 genera and 16 parasites species belonging to 3genera were isolated from the soil and household waste samples respectively. The parasites isolated from the soil samples included Ascaris lumbricoides (28.2%), Entamoeba histolytica (5.1%), Hookworm (28.2%), Strongyloides stercoralis (35.9%) and Sarcocytis sp (2.6%) while A. lumbricoides (18.8%), Hookworm (31.3%) and S. stercoralis (50.0%) were extracted from the waste samples. The soil samples had high abundance of parasites (70.9%) than the household waste samples (29.1%). The most significantly (P<0.05) abundant parasites was S. stercoralis while sites 1 and 4 recorded a statistically significant (P<0.05) abundance of parasites. Majority of the scavengers neglect the use of safety cloth and cover shoes while a statistically significant number of the scavengers do not hand glove (100%), nose mask (89%), visit the hospital only when sick (71%). The study revealed a significant abundance of gastrointestinal parasites in the dumpsites and high health risk behavior by scavengers in the study area. Deliberate formulation of scientific waste management policies to enhance performance, education of scavengers and execution of relevant legislation will go a long way to cub the impact of these parasites on public health.

ABSTRACT
The rapid spread of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) production in Klebsiella pneumoniae proved to be a major challenge for the treatment and control of infectious diseases. The aim of the study was to detect New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase production in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from clinical samples. A total of 103 clinical samples were collected and analysed for the presence of Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated from 26 (25.2%) of the clinical samples. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was carried out for all the isolates. Out of the 26 isolates screened, only 3 and 5 were resistant to meropenem and imipenem respectively. These isolates were screened for New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase production using the combined-disk test. The 8 isolates were New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase producer. New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in Plateau State Specialist Hospital Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria as seen in this study occurs at the rate of 30.8%. Having established the presence of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase among patients in Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos, efforts should be geared towards limiting their spread.

ABSTRACT
The record of endoparasitic nematode species in turtles Trachemys venusta venusta from urban and captivity water bodies was evaluated in Xalapa and Poza Rica Veracruz cities. Four water bodies, 2 urban (Tecajetes´s ecological park and CAD-UV) and 2 in captivity (private homes) with at least 5 individuals of the Trachemys venusta venusta species were considered. The identification of chosen individuals was carried out with a plastic ring on the rear marginal scales of the carapace for later recapture. The samples were analyzed using smears, lugol staining and flotation with 33% zinc sulfate, subsequent microscope observation with a 100X objective. Four taxa at the genus level were recorded for Trachemys venusta venusta (Ascaris sp., Ancylostoma sp., Physaloptera sp. and Trichuris sp.) not reported for this species. The presence of these parasites suggests a "spill effect" of other species of wild and exotic vertebrates that share the habitat. Future studies identifying possible endoparasitic nematodes transmission are a priority due to their zoonotic nature.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Acne vulgaris is a common skin disease that can adversely affect the quality of life of patients. Acne is a chronic disease, involving the face affecting more than 85% of the teenagers, as well as some adults. Though it is considered to be merely a cosmetic problem, it is associated with considerable psychological impairment which is comparable with certain chronic diseases like asthma, epilepsy, diabetes and arthritis. Objective: To assess the impact of acne on Quality of Life and acne vulgaris is a chronic disease affecting the face in adolescents and adults. Material and Methods: The study sample consisted of 451 consecutive patients with facial acne vulgaris. Patients who had attended the Dermatology OPD, Medical College for Women & Hospital (MCW&H), Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh were included in the study. The study sample consisted of 451 consecutive patients with facial acne vulgaris who had attended the Dermatology OPD over a period of 6 months from January to June-2020. After obtaining the history, the acne was graded into mild, moderate and severe based on the type and number of lesions. Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) were administered on the patients to measure the Quality of Life. Results: Majority (55.65%) of the study population was between 16-20 years and the number of males was more than the number of females. Most of the patients were educated and unmarried. 62.31% of patients belonged to the urban areas & (61.20%) had an acne duration of >1 year. Severe acne was seen in 25.27% of patients and 52.10% had a moderate grade of acne. In 300 patients (66.52%) the CADI scores were >8 showing a clear impact on QOL. Based on the DLQI scores 76.93% of the patients had a moderate to extremely large impairment of QOL. Conclusion: Acne has an impact on Quality of Life (QOL) and evaluation of Quality of Life helps in the better management of patients with acne.
